Our mission:

To encourage community involvement with the Lake Metroparks Ranger Department by assisting as ‘extra eyes and ears’ in the parks and acting as goodwill ambassadors for Lake Metroparks in general.

Qualifications:

  • All potential Mounted Posse members must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all phases of horsemanship including grooming, first aid, equitation and trail riding. Ability to drive a truck and trailer is desirable but not mandatory.
  • All potential Bike Patrol members must be able to demonstrate proficiency in all phases of cycling including understanding their bike and its need for any repairs.
  • All members must exhibit enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility towards this program; must be dependable and punctual.
  • Minimum age for volunteers is 21 years.
  • Must complete training program.
  • Must have a positive attitude about the volunteer programs and the Lake Metroparks.
  • Available to commit to the minimum hours volunteered per year.

  • Mounted Posse members must own or have access to a suitable horse for the program.
  • Companion Dog Patrol members must have a dog suitably trained to be a part of the unit and must meet certain certifications including the Canine Good Citizen.
  • Bike Patrol members are obligated to provide own bike and helmet.
  • Must have the ability to follow procedures accurately and responsibly.
  • Must be interested in helping others and be willing to work within the guidelines set by Lake Metroparks.

General duties:

  • Patrols in specified parks in pairs in an “observe, report, and educate” role.
  • Assists with traffic control and public information/public relations at special events and festivals.
  • Represents Lake Metroparks by participating in community parades.
  • Presents educational programs to the public.
