2021 Shelter Reservations

Shelter reservations for 2021 begin Dec. 7 for Lake County residents. Open reservations begin Dec. 14.

2021 Shelter Reservations

Lake Metroparks has 21 shelters available to reserve in 2021 to host your family reunion, birthday party, graduation party, company picnic or other special gatherings. Shelter reservations for the months of March through December begin December 7 for Lake County residents. Open reservations begin December 14. Reservations must be made at least seven days in advance. All shelters provide picnic tables, charcoal grills, restrooms, and other amenities. Currently, restrooms are open for emergency use only. Some of the shelters include power, nearby trails, playground equipment, and volleyball courts for additional fun. 

Reservations may be made online or by calling the Registration Department at 440-358-7275 or 800-669-9226.

Shelter capacities are listed below. Currently, the following guidelines apply to all shelter rentals:

  • The maximum number of people per picnic table/group is ten.
  • Picnic table edges must remain six feet apart at all times.
  • Potlucks/self-serve buffets are prohibited per State of Ohio orders.

 
Reservable shelters

Beaty Landing (east)
Located on East Walnut Street in Painesville. The shelter capacity is 55. Shelter has electricity. Park offers Grand River fishing access (Ohio fishing license required), canoe/kayak access and flush restrooms. 
 
Chagrin River Park (Reeves Road entrance)
Located on Reeves Road in Willoughby. The shelter capacity is 60. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a playground, sand volleyball court, hiking trails, fishing in the Chagrin River (Ohio fishing license required) and a recreational field. 
 
Chagrin River Park (Rural Drive entrance)
Located on Rural Drive in Eastlake. The shelter capacity is 55. Shelter has electricity. The park offers flush restrooms, hiking trails and fishing in the Chagrin River (Ohio fishing license required).

Chapin Forest Reservation (Forest Shelter)
Located on Route 306 in Kirtland. The shelter capacity is 40. No electricity. Shelter has charcoal grill.
Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground, hiking trails and pond fishing. This park has limited access in the winter (open May 1 through November 30).
 
Chapin Forest Reservation (Quarry Shelter)
Located on Route 306 in Kirtland. The shelter capacity is 40. No electricity. Shelter has a charcoal grill. Park offers pit-type restrooms, hiking trails and pond fishing.
  
Chapin Forest Reservation (Twin Ponds shelter)
Located on Hobart Road in Kirtland. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has a fireplace and electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a playground, recreational field, volleyball, hiking trails, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and pond fishing.

Concord Woods Nature Park
Located on Spear Road in Concord Township. (Reservable from 9 am to 2:30 pm or 4 pm to 11 pm). The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has a fireplace and electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground, hiking trails and pond fishing.
 
Environmental Learning Center
Located on Alexander Road in Concord Township. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers portable restrooms and trails, including access to the Greenway Corridor.
 
Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park (East Shelter)
Located on Huntington Beach Drive in Fairport Harbor. The shelter capacity is 40. The shelter is located on the beach with a sandy base. No electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a volleyball court, fire ring and a guarded swim area nearby (summer season only, weather permitting). Between Memorial Day Weekend and Labor Day, the shelter is available to reserve on weekends only.
 
Girdled Road Reservation (Skok Meadow) 
Located on Concord Hambden Road in Concord Township. The shelter and surrounding area can accommodate up to 50 people. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, hiking trails and pond fishing.
 
Girdled Road Reservation (South Shelter)
Located on Radcliffe Road in Concord Township. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has a fireplace and electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, hiking trails, pond fishing and a playground.
 
Gully Brook Park
Located on River Road in Willoughby Hills. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a hiking trail, a fire ring near the shelter and a playground.
 
Helen Hazen Wyman Park
Located on Painesville Warren Road in Concord Township, alongside Big Creek. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground, fishing in the Grand River and Big Creek (Ohio fishing license required) and a recreational field.
 
Hidden Lake
Additional rental fees apply.
Located on Kniffen Road in Leroy Township. The year-round indoor/outdoor shelter has a total capacity of 60. Shelter has a heated indoor area available ($25 utility fee), a fireplace and electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, picnic tables, hiking trails, fishing (catch and release only) and canoe/kayak access. 
 
Hidden Valley Park
Located on Klasen Road in Madison Township, alongside the Grand River. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground, hiking trails and fishing in the Grand River (Ohio fishing license required).
 
Lake Erie Bluffs
Additional rental fees apply.
Located on Lane Road in Perry Township, on the shores of Lake Erie. The year-round shelter capacity is 60. Shelter has a fireplace and electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, picnic tables, hiking trails, scenic overlooks, a 50' observation tower, access to the Lake Erie shoreline and fishing (Ohio fishing license required). 
 
Lakeshore Reservation (Lakeview west)
Located on Lockwood Road in North Perry Village, on the shores of Lake Erie. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a sundial, a paved All Peoples Trail and access to the Lake Erie shoreline (Ohio fishing license required).
 
Lakeshore Reservation (Shadyside east)
Located on Lockwood Road in North Perry Village, on the shores of Lake Erie. The shelter capacity is 45. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a paved All Peoples Trail and access to the Lake Erie shoreline (Ohio fishing license required).
 
Penitentiary Glen Reservation
Located on Kirtland-Chardon Road in Kirtland. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. 
Park offers accessible facilities and flush restrooms. Park offers a Nature Play area, drinking water, hiking trails, Nature Center, the Kevin P. Clinton Wildlife Center, snowshoeing and a bridle trail.

Riverview Park 
Located on Bailey Road in Madison Township, alongside the Grand River. The shelter capacity is 45. Shelter has electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, trails, access to the Grand River (Ohio fishing license required), a fire ring near the shelter and a winter sledding hill. 

Veterans Park
Located on Hopkins Road in Mentor. The shelter capacity is 55. Shelter has a fireplace and electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a playground, hiking trails (some paved), pond and fishing (Ohio fishing license required).

Deposits

  • A $50 refundable deposit is required of Lake County residents wishing to reserve a shelter.
  • Customers living outside Lake County pay a $50 refundable deposit and a $25 rental fee.

 
Lake Erie Bluffs & Hidden Lake shelter reservation deposits

  • A $100 refundable deposit without alcohol and a $100 rental fee is required of Lake County residents wishing to reserve the shelter.
  • Customers living outside Lake County pay a $100 refundable deposit without alcohol and a $150 rental fee.
  • A $300 refundable deposit is required for all rentals with alcohol.

 

Non-reservable shelters

The following shelters are free and may be used as follows:

  • Non-exclusive, shared-use (multiple groups may use a shelter; please spread out with each group using a different table in the shelter).
  • The maximum number of people per picnic table/group is ten.
  • Picnic table edges must remain six feet apart at all times.
  • Potlucks/self-serve buffets are prohibited per State of Ohio orders.

Chapin Forest Reservation (Ledges Shelter)
Located on Route 306 in Kirtland. The shelter capacity is 45. Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground (near Forest Shelter), hiking trails and pond fishing (near Quarry Shelter). This park has limited access in the winter (open May 1 through November 30).

Fairport Harbor Lakefront Park (West Shelter)
Located on Huntington Beach Drive in Fairport Harbor. The shelter capacity is 50. Shelter has electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a volleyball court, a fire ring and a guarded swim area nearby (summer season only, weather permitting).

Hell Hollow Wilderness Area
Located on Leroy Center Road in Thompson.The shelter capacity is 50. No electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, a playground and hiking trails. A high cliff top with a loop trail and steps that provide a dramatic descent into the creek valley are found here. 

Hogback Ridge Park
Located on Emerson Road in Madison Township. The shelter capacity is 40. No electricity. Park offers pit-type restrooms, hiking trails and grills.

Paine Falls Park
Located on Paine Road in Leroy Township. The shelter capacity is 30. No electricity. Park offers pit-type restroom, grills and a scenic waterfall.

Painesville Township Park
Located on Hardy Road in Painesville Township. The shelter capacity is 40. No electricity. Park offers flush restrooms, a playground, ballfields (reservations required), a 200' pier and beautiful views of Lake Erie.

As always, Lake Metroparks is working hard to maintain your parks and keep them safe and accessible. Please visit your parks and do your part to use them in a way that respects each other and follows public health guidance:

  • "Go before you go" (use your toilet before you leave home); restrooms are for emergency use only.
  • Park in parking lots and designated overflow parking areas; do NOT park along roads and park driveways.
  • Bring your own water (fountains are currently turned off).
  • Be prepared to walk/hike single file or step off of trail briefly to make space for others and pass at a safe distance.
  • Pick up after your pet and dispose of waste in trash can. Pets on leash and under control are welcome on all trails.
  • Leave no trace of your visit; kindly help us keep your parks clean and pack out your trash.
