Lake Metroparks receives
“Making Your Tax Dollars Count” award
from Auditor of State, Mary Taylor

Auditor of State Taylor recognized Lake Metroparks for
excellent financial accountability.

Ohio Auditor of State Mary Taylor presented Lake Metroparks with the
“Making Your Tax Dollars Count” award for the park district’s fiscal year 2007 audit.
Fewer than five percent of all Ohio government agencies are eligible for this award. These awards recognized the agency’s exemplary 2007 Annual Financial Report. Certain criteria must be met to receive the “Making Your Tax Dollars Count” award. Standards include:

• The entity must complete and submit a Comprehensive Annual Financial Review (CAFR).
• There must be no findings, or issues, present in their most recent audit report.
• There must be no other financial concerns involving the entity.

The award is also based on the legal compliance that Lake Metroparks rigorously followed federal, state, and local law in accounting, purchasing, personnel, and reporting standards. Lake Metroparks officials received the award from Auditor of State Mary Taylor on Wednesday, August 6.

Taylor commended the Lake Metroparks staff for their commitment to financial accountability. “I am pleased to recognize Lake Metroparks for properly accounting for the tax dollars they spend,” said Taylor. “The community should be proud of their commitment to making sure that each tax dollar is spent appropriately.”

Lake Metroparks has received the State Auditor’s award for financial excellence multiple times since 1992, under the skillful guidance of Kenneth E. Kleppel, CPA, Administrative Services Director.

The Ohio Auditor of State’s Office is one of the largest accounting offices in the nation. The office strives to ensure that all public funds are spent legally and appropriately and works aggressively to root out fraud, waste and abuse in public spending.
