Winter activities at Lake MetroparksLake Metroparks offers a wide variety of opportunities for winter outdoor enthusiasts of all ages. Activities include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, sledding, hiking, and more. A complete list of activities, programs, and events offered this winter is available in the Parks Plus! Cross-country skiing/snowshoeing

  • For current conditions at Chapin Forest and Girdled Road:
    call the Winter Sports Hotline at 440-954-4178.
  • For current conditions at Penitentiary Glen Reservation,
    call the Nature Center at 440-256-1404 (9 am to 5 pm daily).

    Monday through Friday noon to 9 pm
    Saturday and Sunday 9 am to 9 pm
  • Special holiday hours apply
  • Six miles of groomed trails
  • Ski and snowshoe rentals

    9 am to 4 pm daily
  • 8.5 miles of ungroomed trails
  • Snowshoe rental
  • Experience the Peppermint Trail, a quarter-mile loop that is just right for beginners and families and includes a complimentary peppermint stick for all.
  • Rentals available on an hourly and daily basis (weather dependent).
