Located on Lake Erie's shore, this
39-acre park was established in 1911 and became a popular recreational
area offering a baseball field, a dance hall, picnic areas, an open-air pavilion and a beach.
Through the years, Lake Erie has claimed the beach pavilion by erosion, but five softball fields and the dance hall remain as featured attractions. Lake Metroparks entered a cooperative lease agreement in 1991 with the Painesville Township Park commissioners to operate and manage the park. Improvements made to the park include extensive renovation of the dance hall and ball fields.
Community Center/Dance Hall
The dance hall, renovated in 1992 and now called the Community Center to reflect the many uses of the facility, is host to
ballroom and country dances. An admission fee is charged at the door to most dances. Recreational and community programs also occur in the Community Center.
The building may be rented for private functions when not being used for park-sponsored programs. The handicap-accessible facility consists of a large hall with a 5,000 square-foot wooden dance floor; seating at tables and chairs for 200 people (more can be accommodated if the dance floor is used for seating); a kitchen and concession area; and restrooms. Catering and event planning assistance is available.
The Community Center is a great place for seminars, showers, reunions, holiday gatherings, and meetings. To reserve the center or for more information call Lake Metroparks Registration Department at 440-358-7275 or 800-669-9226
