Brief Description:

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Park Operations, the Building Maintenance Specialist performs various maintenance tasks, assuring the public’s safety and maintaining the overall condition of park buildings, grounds, and natural areas. Duties include but are not limited to; preforming routine and preventative building maintenance activities, basic carpentry, entry-level plumbing, entry-level electrical work, in-house construction and other repair projects.

Requirements: 

  • Basic knowledge or understanding of building maintenance and janitorial tasks.
  • Simple understanding of mechanical techniques/skills.
  • Ability to learn maintenance specialty areas included but not limited to; HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, painting, masonry, and electrical work.
  • Capability to operate all types of equipment, including power tools, landscaping equipment and knowledge of applicable safety standards.
  • Ability to learn related safety regulations.
  • Ability to organize and enter data, maintain records, inventories, and follow inspection processes.
  • In-depth interpersonal skills: ability to work with all types of people, and with limited supervision.
  • Basic written/oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills; experience with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Must have the ability to perform various types of manual labor and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Will work occasional Saturdays or Sundays, as required.
  • Must possess a valid drivers’ license and insurable on the Agency’s liability policy.

Park Planner

Rate: Pay Grade: F ($22.2071 hr./$46,190 annual to $33.3107 hr./$69,286 annual). Exempt position, starting salary based on prior experience/education.

Brief Description:

The Park Planner, under direction of the Deputy Director, assists in the implementation of the park district’s Capital Improvement Projects plan. Primary duties include the designing, as well as managing consultants and contractors, in the development of park improvements.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, civil engineering, planning, project/construction management or related field; two years of related experience in planning, design, and development; OR an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Project/construction management and contract administration skills.
  • Broad, general knowledge of planning, estimating and budgeting.
  • Understanding of parks, natural resource management and recreation.
  • Highly organized, efficient and able to handle multiple complex tasks concurrently.
  • Computer proficiency: demonstrated understanding of AutoCAD, Google Sketch Up (or equivalent), Adobe Creative Suites and Microsoft Office Suite. ArcGIS/GPS knowledge preferred.
  • Written, graphic, drawing and oral communication skills; stand-up presentation skills.
  • Emotional intelligence; demonstrated self-awareness and accurate self-assessment; demonstrated sensitivity, openness, reliability, trust, and consistency.
  • Interpersonal skills: demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all types of people (internal and external).
  • Demonstrated initiative; ability to work with limited supervision.

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent - Pine Ridge Country Club

Rate: Pay Grade: E ($19.8446 hr./$41,276 annual - $29.7671 hr./$61,915 annual). Exempt position, starting salary based on prior experience/education.

Brief Description:

A full-time, exempt position, working under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, assisting in all relevant activities surrounding grounds maintenance and course improvement. The Assistant Superintendent also helps develop a daily work schedule and coordinate the related activities and necessary equipment with department staff.

  • Maintenance and repair of irrigation system.
  • Maintenance, repair and installation of drainage system.
  • Application of pesticides and fertilizers, calibration of application equipment.
  • Oversees both in house and contracted golf course projects.
  • Training, supervision and scheduling of golf course maintenance staff.
  • Work with pro shop staff updating current course/playing conditions.
  • Management of maintenance/golf course operations in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent.
  • Works with the Superintendent to constantly improve the golf course, grounds, maintenance facility, while adhering to all related safety programs/required trainings.
  • Assist in the preparation of long- and short-term maintenance goals.
  • Work closely with Superintendent to monitor playing surfaces.  This includes monitoring moisture levels and adjusting irrigation needs daily.

Position Requirements:

  • Associate, Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in turf related field.
  • Ohio Pesticide Applicator’s License, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
  • 2 or more years of golf course experience required.
  • Knowledge of equipment repair and maintenance related activities.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Windows: Office, Word, Excel), Rainbird Stratus II central computer.
  • Valid Ohio Drivers’ License with a clean driving record, background check required.

Part-Time Opportunities

Golf Course Mechanic - Erie Shores Golf Course

Rate: Minimum $14.00/hour - pay rate based on prior experience.

Brief Description: 

Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and/or the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, the Mechanic assists in servicing and completing repairs on a broad spectrum of equipment, including but not limited to; mowers, utility carts, tractors, and various park vehicles and equipment. Position also assists with golf course maintenance including, spraying/spreading fertilizer, tree removal, and some building maintenance. Position will average up to 28 hours per week.  May work up to 40 hours per week at peak times, hours will fluctuate during various times throughout the golf season.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge and excellent troubleshooting skills on various types of equipment repair.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in maintenance specialty areas included but not limited to preventive maintenance on vehicles/equipment.
  • Knowledge of all related safety regulations and compliance in on-going safety training requirements.
  • Must have the ability to perform various types of manual labor and the ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Our internships offer a unique opportunity to gain practical work experience while applying knowledge to real world applications.
