Lake Metroparks Farmpark is a working farm and education center located in Kirtland, Ohio. Opened in 1990, the farm is located on 235 acres with fields, gardens, and standard farm buildings, devoted to agriculture and farming. Farmpark’s mission is to provide a connection to our agricultural roots while helping people understand where our food and clothing come from.

Farmpark features dairy cows, pigs, sheep, chickens, rabbits, horses, alpacas, and goats, a plant science center, farm machinery exhibits, playground and more. Horse or tractor-drawn wagons provide visitors rides to all destinations throughout the park. Wagons are handicap accessible.

Daily activities include demonstrations and educational programs related to farming and gardening. Special events occurring on a monthly basis include: Ice Festival, Maple Sugaring Weekends, HorseFest, Vintage Ohio Wine Festival, Fall Harvest Weekends and more.

Farmpark is an award-winning park and was named one of the top ten educational sites to learn about farming with an average visitation of more than 100,000 students from area schools each year.

HISTORY

The site that is now part of Farmpark was originally purchased in 1831 by Christopher G. Crary from Joshua Stow of the Connecticut Land Company. In 1854, Crary purchased additional property to expand and in 1882 Robert Criswell purchased 206 acres of Crary’s farm. In 1943, the farm was sold by Creswell’s estate to Grayce Farinacci. In 1968, Dr. Leonard T. Skeggs purchased 119 acres from Grayce Farinacci and 116 adjoining acres to raise Polish Arabian horses under the name Locust Farms. Lake Metroparks purchased the 235-acre Locust Farms in 1987. From the time of purchase in 1831 to the present time, Farmpark has been utilized as a site for farming and agriculture.
